Tutorial & Knowledge Base

Comprehensive guide for bugs, fixes, and general advice

Bug 1: Seatbelted

Issue: You get stuck in your seat and cannot leave without relogging.

Impact: Complete loss of mobility, forced to relog to continue playing.

Prevention: Have someone sit idle (but not AFK) inside the ship to help prevent this bug.

Fix: Relog is the only solution once it occurs.

Bug 2: Railed

Issue: Mining laser becomes detached from ship and floats in space. Ship disappears, asteroids appear miles away.

Impact: Mining becomes nearly impossible due to extreme distances and missing visual references.

Fix: Press G to unequip laser → rotate camera → re-equip laser. Repeat until fixed.

Note: Asteroids can still be shot if you can aim perfectly despite the visual displacement.

Bug 3: Basemented

Issue: When leaving your seat on the top floor, you appear on the bottom floor instead.

Impact: Must do the "walk of shame" back to the top floor, often while overencumbered.

Workaround: Be prepared for the displacement and plan accordingly before leaving your seat.

Bug 4: Windshielded

Issue: You appear above the top floor, outside the ship, stuck to or above the windshield.

Impact: Stranded outside the ship with limited options to get back inside.

Fix Options:

  • Try to fall through the ship geometry to get back inside
  • Click seats if in range to sit down and exit them again

Bug 5: Blinded

Issue: Screen becomes pure black, likely caused by camera swapping with item view camera.

Impact: Complete loss of vision, cannot see anything in the game world.

Fix: Relog is the only solution.

Temporary Workaround: Open an item description - the item model will fill your screen, giving you a close-up view of items while the bug persists.

Cracking Debuff System

Mechanic: Shooting asteroids with mounted lasers from passenger seat applies a shield-lowering debuff.

Damage Bonus: When asteroid shield drops below zero, you deal additional damage.

Debuff Stacking & Optimal Strategy

Stacking Rules

  • Maximum stacks: 10 per asteroid
  • First shot matters: Initial shot determines debuff type and value
  • Subsequent shots: Only increase stack count and extend duration

Optimal Strategy

Best Practice: Start with your highest debuff laser, then switch to trade terminal laser for maintenance.

  1. Equip your strongest mounted laser (e.g., IMO Orion Major)
  2. Fire first shot to establish high debuff value
  3. Switch to cheaper trade terminal laser
  4. Continue shooting to maintain 10 stacks with the strong debuff

Skill Faster with Larger Lasers and Bigger TT Input

Core idea: Attached lasers let you safely use higher-level gear early; higher TT cycling increases skill gain rate.

  • Under-level tolerance: Attached mining lasers penalize being under-level less than handheld weapons, so you can use, e.g., a level 100 laser at level 20 to powerlevel at less detriment compared to a normal weapon.
  • TT input drives gains: More TT spend generally means faster skills. Even outside SIB, big hits can punch through protection and still yield ores.
  • Efficiency trade-off: Expect half the DPP when not within SIB and more shrapnel, but long-term returns still offset a lot of spend due to loot mechanics.
  • Boosters: Use skill pills to further accelerate skilling.
  • Cost warning: This is expensive; it's the fastest legit method short of buying skills from other players.

Mining Laser Power Rating & Ship Restrictions

Power Rating: Heavier/stronger mounted lasers have higher power ratings and can only be mounted on certain ships.

  • Ship Compatibility: Heavy lasers are usable only on Pioneer (L) and Prospector ships.
  • Standard small/medium lasers fit on most space-capable vehicles; heavy units require the above ships.

Heavy Lasers

Laser Notes
Genesis Star Eitri 100 (L)Heavy class — Pioneer (L) & Prospector only
Genesis Star Eitri 200 (L)Heavy class — Pioneer (L) & Prospector only
IMO Orion Minor (L)Heavy class — Pioneer (L) & Prospector only
IMO Orion Major (L)Heavy class — Pioneer (L) & Prospector only
Trying to mount these on other ships will fail due to power rating limits.

AFK Skilling (Legit)

Method: Hire a pilot to fly while you toggle Auto Use Tool. Your space mining laser fires indefinitely until it breaks.

  • Pilot moves you between asteroids so you keep gaining skills while away from PC.
  • No exploits/botting involved—entirely within game mechanics.
  • Contact: Thaddeus Rusty Venture for piloting service.

Seating Protocol

Rule: Avoid the two seats closest to the pilot seat at all costs.

Why: Pilots need to constantly swap between pilot and gunner seats for mining operations. Using these seats creates delays and interferes with efficient mining.

Best Practice: Choose seats further back in the ship to give the pilot maximum flexibility for seat swapping.

Emergency Exit Procedures

When Not at Teleporter: You can remove yourself from the ship's guest list to leave immediately.

Important: Always inform the ship owner when you remove yourself from the guest list so they can re-add you for future trips.

Communication: Use team chat or direct message to notify the owner of your departure.

Combat Survival Tips

TT Terminal Access: Capital ships have Trade Terminal access—use it to sell valuable items if under pirate attack.

Safe Logout: Alternative option is to log off during combat. You'll have a 20-second timer but will be safe from destruction.

Priority: Secure your loot first, then worry about the ship. Your items are more valuable than repair costs.

Equipment & Shopping

Mining Laser Source: Purchase mining lasers from Venture Industries.

Location: Howling Mine Bazaar, Floor 1, Shop 5.

Tip: Stock up on backup lasers—they break frequently during extended mining sessions.
